Have only recently gone on the internet at home, hence discovering this great site on the Gingell's - my congratulations to Craig and all concerned. In particular I love seeing the old photos and reading those extra snippets of info that puts a bit of "flesh on the bone" on that persons life. Anyhow while pressing little buttons here and gadgets there, (yes I am new to this internet lark on my own) I stumbled upon this guest list column, so thought I would say hello - Hello all you Gingells!! My own connection to the clan is via my grandmother Emily Gingell that married a Reg Bird. I had intended to ask a serious question but think I have gone "on a bit" so will leave that for another day, plus it's New years eve and time to get washed and changed and off to the pub. Happy new year to you all. Raymond Bird.
Other Information It was while serving in the army at the Woolwich Barracks that my father Francis met my mother Ellen. Shortly after my birth my father left the army and the couple returned to my father's home village of Little Badminton where they set up home. In circa 1951 they parted and soon after my mother moved to Bath Lodge in the Verge Wood at Badminton (see photo below). In circa 1956 she married John Punter and we moved to Shop Lane in the village itself. In 1973 they split and my mother and I moved to 13, Chapel Lane in Acton Turville. I attended Badminton Primary School and then Chipping Sodbury Secondary Modern. On leaving School at 15 in 1961 I first worked in a Greyhound Kennels at Sherston before working on two local Farms between 1962-1967. Between 1968-1973 I spent mostly travelling around Britain, but also two trips to Europe and Morocco, working in a variety of jobs which included Holiday camps in Devon and Cornwall, Barwork in Blackpool, Building Labourer in Edinburgh and Farm work in Greece. From 1973-1977 I was Postman at Badminton. More travelling and a varied of jobs followed before returning home and starting self-employment as a Country-life Photographer in 1981, selling both for publishing and having a trade-stand at outdoor shows, In 1992 S/H Book-selling at Shows was added to the business. I retired from full time work in 2011 following a major heart operation.
